We Are All In This Together

Yesterday my co-worker, Ed Temple, and his lovely wife Darlene invited the staff to their home for lunch. Community is so important with our staff and these occasions are precious for bonding and overall stress relief from the day-to-day business of operating a thriving church.

We walked the few blocks to Ed’s home, passing lush green backyards as we went. While the rest of the staff trickled in, Ed gave Bonnie and me a tour of their quaint home–a gorgeous abode full of old wood, staircases, and Charlotte Brontë-like dark rooms. I am a huge architecture buff, so it was a real treat! As soon as everyone gathered outside on the back porches, Ed said a prayer, and we started to dig in to the delectable sight before us. Everything was so delicious! The air was full of laughter from childhood stories shared and seminary jokes retold. The light rain shower was a welcome reprieve from the otherwise muggy weather.

There is nothing better than fresh food and stimulating conversation. If you don’t have a church home, please consider finding a local church where you can get plugged in and get to know your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We need each other. The whole idea of “I am the Church, I don’t need to attend” is not healthy. All human beings need interaction with other human beings. And Christians need it even more so. The writer of Hebrews said in Chapter 10, verse 25: “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”

A warm thank you to Ed and Darlene for opening their home to us. If only we could have staff meetings there each month! (I won’t push my luck on that.)

“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart” – Acts 2: 46

God bless,

Rebecca
